Women's Health

For many women, family is a great factor in their lives and the decision to have children is an important one. Hence, it is important to go for fertility and premarital screenings to ensure that one can make plans for the future.

Overview

At Providence Clinic, we provide both fertility and premarital screenings so couples can be more informed and supported in their decisions to start a family. Such screenings help determine the possibility of genetic abnormalities or transmissible disorders, as well as the chances of naturally occurring conception. Such results may allow the couple to make plans for alternative contraception.

Premarital and Panorama Screening

Premarital or pre-conception screenings are a series of comprehensive medical tests, usually done by couples, to be better informed about any possible issues they might face when starting a family. These include possible genetic disorders that may be passed on, such as sickle-cell anemia and thalassemia, and infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B and C and HIV/AIDS.

At Providence Clinic, we also provide panorama testing, which gives a personalised risk assessment for common chromosomal conditions that may affect a child, such as Down Syndrome and Edwards Syndrome. It is a non-invasive blood test done on the pregnant mother and can be done when the baby is just nine weeks old, giving ample time for parents to make plans when they receive the results.

The results of these tests will help couples understand more about the odds of transmission and be able to make plans regarding family. The tests may also help avoid the emotional and social issues faced by families whose children suffer and limit transmission of such conditions.

Fertility Screening

Fertility screening help couples identify the areas that may affect their chances of naturally starting a family, so that they may be better informed and equipped to make plans regarding that aspect of their lives.

This may be due to conditions such as endometriosis, fallopian tube issues, PCOS, which affect the female reproductive system and make it difficult for eggs to be produced or implanted in the uterus. It may also be due to low hormone levels in either party. For women, fertility screening would include a hormone blood test and an ultrasound while for men, it will usually include a semen analysis.

Cervical Cancer vaccinations

Cervical Cancer vaccinations protect women against persistent infection and cervical cancer caused by HPV Types 16 and 18. HPV stands for Human Papillomavirus, which is a viral infection. This vaccine is administered in 3 doses and is recommended for women aged nine to 25.

Men's Health

Overview of Treatments and Conditions Treated

Men’s health is a topic rarely discussed in Singapore, but is important nonetheless. At Providence Clinic, apart from men’s health issues such as STD, HIV, etc. We offer treatments such as shockwave therapy for Erectile Dysfunction and hormone replacement for testosterone deficiency among others

Erectile Dysfunction

At Providence Clinic, we also treat erectile dysfunction. Erectile Dysfunction is a persistent difficulty achieving and maintaining an erection long enough to have sex. While it is usually caused by physical issues such as the blood vessels and nerves supplying the penis being affected, it may also be due to emotional struggles such as stress due to work.

Erectile Dysfunction may occur occasionally due to stress, however, continued issues with inability to achieve or maintain an erection may be due to underlying health conditions. The disorder may also damage the patient’s confidence and mood. While this condition is treatable, it may be an indicator for other physical issues such as heart conditions restricting blood flow or the blood vessels narrowing, which is why it is important to see a physician about it.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

We also offer hormone replacement therapy for individuals found to have testosterone deficiency. Testosterone helps maintain bone density, healthy levels of red blood cells and sexual health. While testosterone levels in men naturally decrease as they age, it may be helpful to men who naturally have lower levels of testosterone. This may be due to certain conditions, such as hypogonadism.

Shockwave Therapy

Providence Clinic offers shockwave therapy to help with Erectile Dysfunction, which is also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy. Shock waves are audible high energy waves applied to the penis to repair and strengthen blood vessels in the penis. This helps to increase blood flow to the region, which helps with Erectile Dysfunction. It has the same effects as traditional methods to deal with the condition, such as Viagra. However, it also helps to trigger new, better tissue to help produce erections.
