Aesthetics

We all want to look our best so that we can feel our best. However, sometimes it is difficult for us to do so without some additional help. At Providence Clinic, our doctors are able to help individuals achieve their best look through safe and minimally invasive procedures.

We provide treatment for acne and melasma, help lift and tighten skin through botox, fillers & laser treatment, offer weight loss control and also offer treatments for hair and nails.

Do come down and speak to our doctors about any concerns you may have so that they may tailor a treatment plan that is suited to your individual needs.

Acne treatment

Acne treatment with a certified doctor creates a detailed and unique plan to treat cystic acne and acne scars. This may include stronger medication than is sold in normal pharmacies or over the counter as well as laser treatment and chemical exfoliation. Acne treatment is recommended for stubborn acne that is persistent and inflamed or causes a drop in self-esteem and mental anguish. Medication may include antibiotics to reduce the inflammation and bacteria causing persistent acne. Another common medication is Isotretinoin, which is prescribed in the case of severe cystic acne or acne that does not respond to other treatments. Laser therapy for acne affects the sebaceous glands that produce oil, causing the skin to be less oily. Light therapy targets the bacteria that causes acne and inflammation.

Melasma

Melasma is a common skin condition that causes dark or discoloured patches on the skin. It is a common symptom of pregnancy, though it can also affect men. It is usually due to hormone changes and sun exposure. To treat melasma, it is important to understand the underlying issue causing the melasma. For hormonal issues, the dermatologist may suggest changing hormonal contraceptives to non hormonal ones. Dermatologists may also prescribe topical medications such as topical retinol and retinoid treatments. Other treatments also include hydroquinone, which blocks melanin production and effectively bleaches the skin, as well as other topical bleaching agents and chemical peels.

Laser treatment

Laser treatment for skin uses lasers, which are a concentrated light beam of varying wavelengths, to deeply penetrate the skin to lift and tighten the skin. Laser treatment can be used to treat acne scars, age spots, crow’s feet and wrinkles. There are various wavelengths for different conditions. For basic rejuvenation, Carbon Dioxide lasers are the most commonly used to remove the outer layers of old or damaged skin. Another commonly used laser treatment is the YAG laser, which only has a little burning sensation on the nearby tissue and heals faster, with fewer side effects than Carbon Dioxide laser. For non-wounding lasers that work under the skin rather than removing the outer layer, there are several different lasers as well. Pulsed Dye lasers shrink the blood vessels to treat spider veins and rosacea.

Hair & Nail Treatment

Some of the most common ones include alopecia, dandruff, onycholysis and ingrown nails.

Hair loss is a common problem that affects both men and women, and undoubtedly causes anxiety and distress when it occurs. There are many reasons including diet, stress or hormone imbalances among others which may contribute to this.

Dandruff is a common scalp condition, especially in our humid weather. However, if the scalp has silvery flakes instead of white or yellow flakes, that might indicate psoriasis, which is a genetic skin condition that causes bumpy and flaky skin.

For mild dandruff, a mild shampoo will usually work, but for stronger dandruff, medicated shampoo might be prescribed. These will contain antibacterial and antifungal components to stop the inflammation and stop the growth of dandruff. If the dandruff is caused by psoriasis, coal-tar based medicated shampoos might be prescribed.

Onycholysis refers to the separation of the nail from the nail bed, typically due to injury or infection. Ingrown nails are also common, usually occurring due to previous injury or cutting the nail too deeply, causing the nail to grow into the skin surrounding the nail.

Tinea Unguium, also known as the fungal infection of the nails, may be treated with topical or oral antifungal medication.
